Octoberween

My favorite month has come and gone in the blink of an eye. For those of you that really know me, you know how much I love Halloween. In fact, I love it so much that I pretty much celebrate the holiday all month long with my best friends and create multiple costumes. This year was no different, except for the fact that I had one final last minute night costume for October 31st.

The celebrations began at one of my best friend's apartment warming party. It was Halloween-themed and everyone had some very impressive costumes! Every year, one of my costumes has to be either The Joker or Harley Quinn (I alternate each year) and it was time for Mr. J to come out and play. I like doing these costumes because they are my favorite villains and I will always pay tribute to them. I never do them the same way though, I like to do different takes of the characters. This year, I decided to do the newest Joker that will be gracing us - Joaquin Phoenix's Joker!

My second costume was a more subtle one since I was going to see by best friend, Ali T, perform at one of my favorite places in Vermont - Woodstock! The venue was Bentley's and it is a more high-end restaurant, and I definitely did not want a costume that would make me feel uncomfortable since NO ONE was dressed up but Ali and I. So for my costume, I went as a preppy Ravenclaw. If you do not know what a Ravenclaw is... go watch the Harry Potter movies. I am a Ravenclaw to the bone, and I had the perfect pieces to make this costume.

My third costume is one that I have been wanting to do for some time now, a male version of Cruella De Vil! I have waited this long to do it because I never really found the right pieces of clothing or accessories to really do the costume justice. But I finally did! When people dress up as Cruella, they usually have a Dalmatian coat but I know that one of her iconic looks from both live-action movies is the red coat she wears towards the end of the movies. THAT was the look I wanted, and the colors would pop if I wore all black underneath. The white eye was a nice little touch I added to make my rendition truly mine.

For the 31st I dressed up as the scariest thing for all millennials... COMMITMENT. I decided to do it all black in honor of Halloween and it falling on a Wednesday (a little nod to American Horror Story). At first I did not plan on changing costumes and just going out to the bars wearing this but then I thought, "it would not be me if I did not have one final costume ready".

And here we are. My final costume, the devil! I pulled this costume together at the very last minute - something I do NOT recommend since I could not find horns ANYWHERE! I was freaking out. But in the end I was able to find two pairs of horns that would work great. The first pair I used for picture purposes and the second pair I wore out in case I decided to get disorderly and lose them. Shockingly, I did not lose the horns at all! I survived the night.

If you look closely, all my costumes are made with articles of clothing that I have worn before or that you can keep on wearing after the big night. I am not really a fan of buying a full costume, it is better when you put it together yourself and you get more out of your money with the specific things you buy since you can keep wearing them. It truly was an incredible month and I am so grateful I got to celebrate it with my closest friends. Now, it is time to begin brainstorming ideas for next year!
