I have always had a high interest for books with fantastical elements to it, and when I heard these were being turned into movies I knew I had to read them before I watched the movies. These books are not even on my list of books that I have yet to read, but I couldn't help but buy all three and begin my journey.
So far, I have finished the first book and I am in the process of reading the second one. I must say, the movie made it seem like the story was colorful and happy, but it is actually pretty deep and dark. The movie definitely skipped some of the more gruesome elements of the book, and it altered the ending a little... (which I will be very mad if I find out that that's how the series end).
The story is basically about Jacob, who has never really fitted in with the "normal" crowd back in his hometown in Florida. Jacob and his grandfather shared a close bond, until a tragic accident happens and sends Jacob on an adventure to discover more about his grandfather's mysterious past. Jacob discovers Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and he is instantly welcomed. Throughout his journey, he learns more about the peculiar children, how they have survived for so long, and that he in fact is a peculiar child as well!
I am enjoying the series very much, particularly because I identify with Jacob. I mean, I guess we can all identify in some ways with him, not fitting in and wanting to find your higher purpose in life. If you are looking for a next reading pursuit, I definitely recommend this one, you will not regret it.
