The Shadowhunter Chronicles

I have been meaning to bring my "Bookshelf" section of my blog for some time now, but I always debated on what series I wanted to make the comeback with. At first I thought Harry Potter would be the obvious choice, but then again... too obvious for me to write about that one first. So, instead I have decided to shine a light on a series that is well-known, yet not a lot of people from my circle know of it. The Shadowhunter Chronicles is a series of books written by the incredible Cassandra Clare, and they are basically about descendants of angels, the Shadowhunters, trying to keep peace on Earth from demons and other mythical creatures. Currently, there are 3 main series of stories: The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, and The Dark Artifices. Clare is currently developing a fourth installment titled The Last Hours. And, there are also many collections of short stories that add to the Shadowhunter Universe.

All the series are connected, yet they take place in different time periods. If you want to read them in chronological order, then this is the order: The Infernal Devices (3 books), The Mortal Instruments (6 books), and The Dark Artifices (3 books). It is a GIANT series, one that has kept me obsessed with reading long after Harry Potter came to an end. Each series has its fare share of betrayals, plot twists, sappy romances, and battle sequences - yet they are all different, they each offer a unique take on everything. If I had to choose which is my favorite, I would have to say hands down The Infernal Devices. The books were released as a prequel to The Mortal Instruments, and it gave us some incredible insight as to why certain things are the way they are in the first books, and how some characters came to be. But, the main reason why I love this particular series so much is because of the final book, Clockwork Princess. This book... damn did it make me cry... like UGLY CRY! There have been other books and novels that have made me shed a tear, but this one in particular had me BAWLING.

I am currently awaiting the final book in The Dark Artifices, and so far I must say that I am completely hooked on the story. This series takes places years after the events of The Mortal Instruments, yet it brings back some of our beloved original characters for some parts. With so many characters, sometimes it is hard to keep track who is related to whom - think of it kind of like Game of Thrones - but it ultimately all makes sense. If you are looking for a series that will keep you entertained for some time, then The Shadowhunter Chronicles is perfect for you! Clare has been able to write a storyline for each type of reader, so you will definitely identify with several characters and their stories. And hey, who does not like a series about angels and demons fighting for the fate of Earth?
